Explosive Exercise: Theoretical and Practical Aspects

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

Explosive exercise can be defined as isometric or dynamic exercise with maximum rates or force development (RFD). Athletic performances (and daily activities) are dependent upon a variety or kinetic and kinematic factors. Beneficial alterations in theses factors can be only partially effected by typical heavy weight training. The use or explosive exercise, particularly dynamic explosive exercise, can alter a much wider range or force/power related variables. This presentation will discuss the efficacy or explosive exercise in beneficially altering these parameters. Discussion will include a description or various exercises, injury potential and safety issues, as well as appropriate programming or these exercises within the context of athletic training protocols.
