Abstract

Gender identity and expression are often given little attention in current counselor education programs. Counselors benefit from an enhanced and inclusive examination of a client’s gender identity and gender expression in order to approach counseling holistically. This session will provide counselor educators with the tools and trans-affirmative language needed to discuss these issues with students, as well as provide a more comprehensive understanding of the mental and emotional needs of transgender clients.
