Mid-Career Faculty Workshop: Research and Promotion & Tenure

Many faculty development and mentoring programs focus on orienting new faculty to academia, the necessary components to start a dossier for promotion and tenure, and connecting them to those with similar research interests. However, it is essential for faculty development and mentoring to continue to occur for mid-career faculty. At the mid-career point, it can be challenging to find professional development for career advancement. The purpose of this session is to facilitate the professional development of mid-career pediatric PT program faculty by introducing participants to foundational elements of research and the process of promotion and tenure for mid-career pediatric PT program faculty. The intended audience is educators who participate in professional PT education. A panel of experts will discuss components from promotion and tenure (P & T) and solidifying a research agenda, to facilitate career advancement. Participants will identify and discuss strategies for solidifying a research agenda, productivity of research and developing research collaborations. Overall outcomes will include solidifying strategic methods and references to support a dossier, development of a network of colleagues and mentors, and implementing priorities for the development of career goals and ultimately, career advancement. This session serves as a start to the upcoming APTA Pediatrics hybrid course that will address these foundational areas in more depth.
