Abstract

The present study explored the transformational aspects of integrating digital tools in professional preparation in literacy. As a design experiment, this study sought to understand how teachers experience video as a platform for reflection on and improvement of practice and the nature of their participation in digital video as a new literacy. Specifically, we ask in what ways did teachers’ use of digital video intersect with their learning of reading pedagogy? What are the implications of our study for those who seek to incorporate digital video technology into the design of professional development in literacy? We report here the affordances of video analysis as a self-reflection as well as a collaborative tool within graduate level practica.
